States groaning in domestic debt
The total domestic debt of the 36 states of the federation as at December 2016 amounted to N2.958 trillion with Lagos state accounting for the highest of N311.7 billion. Lagos is followed by Delta state with a to local debt of N241.231 billion. Akwa Ibom is third with N155.431 billion while Rivers state is fourth in the high debt ranking with a domestic debt profile of N142.424billion. The state with the lowest domestic debt stock is Anambra that has N3.993billion debt overhang.
