The market according to dealing members of the exchange rallied as the All Share Index (ASI) recorded a 59basic points mark-up.The banking sector was bullish during the day’s proceedings, a combination of offers at the high end of the market and healthy demand at current levels pushed up prices across board in the sector. GT Bank, Zenith Bank and UBA picked up 4.1 per cent, 2.7 per cent and 1.2 per cent while Diamond Bank, Fidelity Bank and Skye Bank also recorded gains of 3.8 per cent, 1.6 per cent and 1.2 per cent apiece.
The Food and Beverages sector was also upbeat; Dangote Sugar, Dangote Flour and Nestle were up by 2.6 per cent, 1.6 per cent and 1.5 per cent respectively. Nascon on the other hand lost 2.2 per cent though closing bids and offers were fairly matched and could prevent a further slide tomorrow. Others in the sector recorded no change at the close of the session.
Fringe players, Portland Paint and Beta Glass picked up maximum points today. Closing sentiments suggests that this trend could continue tomorrow as both closed with unsatisfied demand at limit up. ABC Transport, Evans Medical and Forte Oil were also top gainers with points in excess of 8 per cent apiece.UAC of Nigeria Plc has acquired majority equity stake in Portland Paints and Products Nigeria Plc. UACN acquired 204.0m ordinary shares of Portland Paints, representing 51.0 per cent equity stake at an acquisition price per share of N4.47.
