Mr Chika Onuegbu, the National Industrial Relation Officer (NIRO) of PENGASSAN, made the call in Port Onuegbu said that the bill would transform the downstream sector, if enacted.
According to him, the PIB combines16 different Nigerian petroleum laws into a single and coherent document to establish the legal and regulatory framework, institutions and regulatory authorities for the Nigerian petroleum industry. He also noted that the bill had outlined rules for the operation of the upstream and downstream sectors. Onuegbu, who is also the Chairman, Rivers chapter of the Trade Union Congress (TUC), said the bill would increase domestic gas supplies for power generation and industrial development.
