FG to send delegation to Ghana over Nigeria traders ordeal in Ghana
The Federal government has directed that a Ministerial delegation be sent to Ghana to resolve the lingering conflict between Nigerian Traders and Ghanaian Authorities. In a statement made available to journalists said, ” The delegation to be led by the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Otunba Adeniyi Adebayo and made up of relevant stakeholders, will also engage in further dialogue with Ghanaian authorities with a view to finding a lasting solution to the problem.
At a meeting convened by the Minister on Monday and attended by the Minister of State, Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Zubairu Dada; the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr Nasir Sani-Gwarzo; also included the Executive Secretary, Nigerian Investment Promotion Commission (NIPC), Ms Yewande Sadiku; Chief Executive Officer, Nigerian Diaspora Commission, Hon Abike Dabiri; President of National Association of Nigerian Traders (NANTS), Dr Ken Ukaoha who are also members of the delegation; it was resolved that the delegation led by the Minister should undertake the visit between May 31 and June 1, 2021.
In August 2020, shops belonging to Nigerian traders in Accra were locked up by Ghanaian authorities. It will be recall that, over 1000 Nigerian traders in Ghana have suffered a setback in their business activities and were set for deportation over the one million dollars GIPC levy by the Ghanaian Ministry of Trades. The Speaker of Nigeria’s House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila who also led a delegation of lawmakers from the House of Representatives and was received by the Speaker of the Ghanaian parliament. Gbajabiamila who said that, Crisis between Nigerian traders and Ghanaian authority will be resolve at Diplomatic level.
