The Nigerian Stock Exchange All-Share Index gained 46 basis points Wednesday. The banking sector rallied slightly during transactions, with fairly matched gains and losses. Crossed deals at N6.67 set the pace for Access Bank as it gained 1.7 per cent in its share price; GTBank also closed on the up-tick with a 2.1 per cent mark-up with closing sentiments suggesting that this trend could continue. On the flip side, FCMB and Skye Bank shed 5.0 per cent and 2.4 per cent respectively.
An initial shaky start of profit taking and hurried exits attempted to halt the rally on Dangote Flour, however sustained interest led to a further 5.0 per cent mark-up as it closed with unsatisfied demand at the highest price of the day; Cadbury also bagged maximum points. On the flip side, profit taking shaved off 2.5 per cent from Dangote Sugar while Nascon lost 4.8 per cent. In the building material sector, Dangote Cement was skewed to the buy side, finishing with a 2.5 per cent up-tick; CCNN also inched up marginally while Lafarge Wapco shed 2.1 per cent and Ashaka Cement recorded no change.
