Nigerian Stock Exchange index grows by 1.04 per cent as market re-opens
Equity transactions at the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) opened on Monday on a positive note, as some highly capitalised companies recorded increases in their prices. The All-Share Index appreciated by 237.08 points or 1.04 per cent to close at 22,978.13 points compared with the opening index of 22,741.05 points. Also, the market capitalisation grew by N76 billion or 1.04 per cent to close at N 7.335 trillion, up from the N7.259 trillion recorded on Friday.
NewGold led the price gainers’ table, chalking up N15 to close at N2, 492 per unit. Nigerian Breweries followed with N1.99 to close at N112, while Lafarge Wapco added N1.50 to close at N43.50 per share. Conoilappreciated by N1.02 to close at 21.56 per share, while Glaxosmithkline’s share price grew by 86k to close at N23.96
On the other hand, Enamelware led the losers’ chart with N1.80 to close at N34.39 per share. Presco followed with N1 to close at N15.15 per share while UBN dipped by 23k to close at N4.42 per share. Dangote Sugar lost 16k to close at N21.66, while May & Baker lost 9k to close at N1.72 per share. Investors at the end of trading bought 270.49 million shares worth N1.35 billion in 4,131 deals. On Friday, 443.19 million shares valued at N1.44 billion were traded in 3,515 deals.
