Investors stake N5.85bn on 573.76m shares
Investors on the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) staked N5.85 billion on 573.76 million shares traded in 7,232 deals on Wednesday. The volume increased by 40.56 per cent over the 408.19 million shares worth N4.59 billion exchanged in 6,915 deals on Tuesday.
Access Bank lifted the turnover volume of shares traded with an exchange of 109.53 million shares valued at N936.14 million. UBA came second on the activity chart, accounting for 54.69 million shares worth N360.18 million, while Skye Bank sold 42.22 million shares valued at N243.31 million. Major equities recorded price losses, led by Lafarge Wapco, which dipped by N3.80 to close at N83.90 per share.
Nigerian Breweries lost N3.01 to close at N168, while UACN dipped N2.92 to close at N56.08 per share. Nestle and Guinness lost N1 each to close at N972 and N264 per share, respectively. Consequently, the All-Share Index recorded further depreciation, losing 423.44 basis points of 1.24 per cent to close at 33,665.57, down from 34,089.01 on Tuesday. Also, the market capitalization which opened at N10.91 trillion lost N196 billion to close at N10.71 trillion following the losses in prices.
Conversely, Okomu Oil Palm recorded the highest price gain, appreciating by N9 to close at N106 per share. Dangote Cement followed with a gain of N1.02 to close at N157.02, while PZ Cussons increased by 30k to close at N35.50 per share. Fidelity Bank garnered 19k to close at N2.90, while RT Briscoe garnered 16k to close at N2.10 per share.
