AU/NEPAD summit postponed
The first African Union (AU) and New Partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD) summit, slated to hold between Nov. 28 and Nov. 30, has been postponed. Dr Aniebo Roberts, Executive Secretary/CEO of the NEPAD Business Group Nigeria, in a statement on Tuesday, in Abuja, blamed the postponement on a situation beyond their control.
“We regret to announce the postponement of the AU-NEPAD Week event scheduled for In spite of this postponement, we are still mobilising for the event and a new date and venue will be conveyed to you as soon as possible. Meanwhile, we sincerely regret any inconvenience the postponement may have caused you and your organisation,” it said. Earlier, Roberts had told NAN that, “It is actually AU-NEPAD week, the first of its kind in Africa and we are going to bring the Nobel laureates: Wole Soyinka, Desmond Tutu, and Nelson Mandela.” The executive secretary said that the summit would discuss issues on debt management in Africa, among others, adding that NEPAD was concerned about the growing rate of debts without reference to their uses.
