Capital market index appreciates by 0.67%
Trading activities on the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) closed upbeat with the All-Share Index improving by 0.67 per cent. The index grew by 249.65 basis points or 0.67 per cent, to close at 37,622.74, from the 37,373.09 recorded on Wednesday. Also, the market capitalisation appreciated by N79 billion to close at N12.020 trillion, as against the N11.941 trillion achieved on Oct. 30.
The appreciation was as a result of huge price gains by some blue chip companies. A breakdown of the price movement chart indicated that Nestle led the gainers’ chart by N49 to close at N1, 100 per share. It was trailed by Guinness with N12 to close at N252, while Unilever garnered N1.98 to close at N61 per share. Nigerian Breweries rose by N1.01 to close at N175, while Presco gained N1 to close at N36 per share.
Total led the losers chart by N6.89 to close at N160.11 per share. Con Oil lost N2.45 to close at N46.70, while MRS Oil dipped N1.99 to close at N37.99 per share. Cadbury dropped N1.44 to close at N55.06, while Mobil Oil decreased by N1.05 to close at N115 per share. In all, a total of 380.81 million shares worth N4.01 billion were traded by investors in 4,554 deals.
This was against the 569.65 million shares valued at N3.54 billion achieved in 5,043 deals on Wednesday. Wapic Insurance emerged the most traded equity, accounting for 112.09 million shares worth N101.76 million. Zenith came second on the activity chart with an exchange of 43.39 million shares valued N922.82 million, while Equity Assurance sold 31.02 million shares worth N15.51 million. GT Bank recorded a turnover of 28.47 million valued at N724.30 million, while Ecobank Transnational Incorporation (ETI) transacted 26.13 million shares worth N361.88 million.
