Chevron commits N784.75 bn to local content development in Nigeria
Chevron Nigeria on Friday in Abuja said it had invested N784.75 billion (five billion dollars) on the development of local content projects in the Niger Delta. Mr Raymond Wilcox, General Manager, Nigeria Content Development in Chevron, made this known in a paper titled “Escravos Gas-to-Liquids (EGTL) Impacts on the Nigeria Delta’’ at the 2012 Nigeria Oil and Gas (NOG) Conference. He said that the company had created various avenues in areas of contracts, training and procurement opportunities to Nigerian contractors. “We have engaged Nigerians in areas of training, capacity building, and employment of Nigerians in infrastructural development and community content. This has created indirect benefits such as increase in household income level in the Niger Delta,’’ he said.
Wilcox said that Chevron achieved 40 million man-hours and 500 days without LTI (Lost Time Incident) in 2011, adding that about 280 sub-contracts were awarded to Nigerian companies. He said that the company had 600 purchase orders placed with Nigerian suppliers, while a contracting strategy was put in place to maximise community participation. “Majority of expenditures for contracts and procurement domiciled in Delta State were training, capacity building and employment,’’ he said.
