EKEDC announces 10-hour payment downtime for prepaid customers Tuesday
The Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) has announced a 10-hour downtime for prepaid payment services scheduled for Tuesday, April 22, 2025. The Disco said that the interruption would occur between 2:00 p.m. and 11:59 p.m. (14:00 – 23:59). This was disclosed in a statement on Thursday in Lagos by the General Manager, Corporate Communications at EKEDC, Babatunde Lasaki. According to Mr Lasaki, the oncoming temporary service disruption is due to a scheduled system maintenance and upgrade aimed at enhancing efficiency and improving the overall customer experience. He said that during the downtime, postpaid customers would still be able to make payments through approved channels. He added that electricity supply would remain unaffected, advising prepaid customers to recharge their meters ahead of the downtime to avoid service disruptions. “We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this may cause. This upgrade is essential to provide our customers with a more seamless and robust service,” he said. He further explained that once the upgrade was completed, customers would benefit from several improvements, including access to payment and consumption history. He identified other benefits to include a simplified and more secure payment process, a user-friendly self-care portal for enquiries and issue resolution and a newly designed, customer-friendly postpaid bill format. Mr Lasaki also assured customers that EKEDC’s customer service team would be available to provide support during the downtime. He urged customers to engage only through official customer service channels and avoid reaching out to individuals within the company. The spokesman said that EKEDC continued to lead in technology, service delivery, and customer experience. He added that the company currently ranked among the top-performing electricity distribution companies in Nigeria, as recognised by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC).
