FG to generate 370,000 jobs in 2012 through public works
Nigeria President Dr Goodluck Jonathan on Monday kicked started the subsidy reinvestment and empowerment programme and launched the Public Works and Women/Youth Employment (PW/WYE)) project targeted at generating 370,000 jobs in the country before the end of the year. The project, which is a component of the Subsidy Re-investment and Empowerment Programme (SURE), was launched at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa.
He said that his administration recognised the youth as strategic partners in national development and was prepared to address the problem of youth unemployment. pecifically, he said the project was designed to create immediate employment opportunities for women and youths in labour intensive public works.
The project, which is expected to generate 50,000 skilled jobs and 320,000 unskilled job opportunities, is to be implemented in partnership with the states, local governments and the private sector.
