GlaxoSmithKline to delist from NGX as All-Share Index edges higher, up 2.04%
GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) Plc has said that it has received the Securities and Exchange Commission’s (SEC) approval of its scheme arrangement (earlier sanctioned by the Federal High Court on December 5, 2023). Accordingly, the company is set to apply to delist its shares from trading on the NGX, in line with its strategic intent to cease commercialisation of its business in Nigeria through local operating companies. In another development in the capital market, ETERNA Plc said it ha been appointed as one of the official domestic distributors of Dangote Petroleum Refinery products in Nigeria. This milestone is expected to enhance the business operations
Meanwhile, bullish sentiment persisted on the Lagos bourse. Sustained buy interests in industrial heavyweights namely, DANGCEM (+8.27%), BUACEMENT (+8.96%) alongside MTNN (+0.03%) offset losses in ZENITHBANK (-1.99%), GTCO (-2.15%) and UBA (-4.62%), keeping the market in the green. Consequently, the benchmark index posted a 2.04% gain to settle at 91,896.97 points. The year-to-date (YTD) return rose to 22.90%, while market capitalisation gained ₦1.01trn to close at ₦50.29trn.
Analysis of today’s market activities showed trade turnover settled higher relative to the previous session, with the value of transactions up by 17.78%. A total of 1.14bn shares valued at ₦19.29bn were exchanged in 17,804 deals. TRANSCORP (+9.46%) led both the volume and value chart with 156.62m units traded in deals worth ₦2.96bn.
Market breadth closed negative at a 1.35-to-1 ratio with declining issues outnumbering the advancing ones. IKEJAHOTEL (-9.79%) topped forty-one (41) others on the laggard’s table while ETERNA (-10.00%) led thirty (30) others on the laggard’s log.
