NCAA lifts ban on Discovery Airline
The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) on Tuesday lifted the suspension on the Discovery Airline’s Air Operator Certificate (AOC). Mr Samuel Adurogboye, Asst. General Manager, Corporate Communications for NCAA, told aviation correspondents in Lagos that the airline has complied with some demands by the regulatory body.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalled that the airline’s AOC was suspended by NCAA on Jan. 8, for violation of consumer right. Adurogboye said, however, that the airline would have to re-apply for the re-certification of their equipment .
He said inaddition the NCAA would continue to review and monitor the airline’s operations
Adurogboye explained that the NCAA would continue to carry out corrective measures by imposing sanctions on airlines that commit infractions in line with the law. Mr Babatunde Babalola, Chairman, Discovery airline, had recently told newsmen that it had lost N1 billion due to the suspension of the airline’s operation.

The NCAA had on Jan 8 suspended the airline’s AOC because of its failure to comply with laid down operational rules. Section 35 (2) and (3) (b) of the Civil Aviation Act 2006 and Part 1.1.3.3.3 (a) (i) of the Nigeria Civil Aviation Regulations, 2009, empowers NCAA to suspend the Air Operator’s Certificate of any airline that default in its operation.
