NCC to roll out new tariff plans Dec. 13
The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) will announce a set of new tariff plans for telecom operators on Dec. 13. 2024. Dr. Aminu Maida, the Chief Executive and Executive Vice Chairman of the commission, announced this in Abuja. Maida, who represented by Reuben Muoka, the NCC Director of Public Affairs, promised that the new date would not be shifted unlike the previous date of Oct. 27. “On December 13, 2024, a new tariff plan will be announced against the old date of October 27. We have gotten stakeholders to make inputs. A limit has been given to the operators. With this, no operator is expected to have more than seven tariff plans.
“We believe that this measure will bring some kind of relief to telecom consumers and will eliminate misconception on the use of data and airtime. The commission has been carrying out awareness campaigns on this through adverts and advocacy to a large extent,” the NCC boss said. On data depletion complaints, he said the NCC had investigated the complaints and found out that the telecom operators were not culpable as claimed by the consumers. Maida said data consumption depended on the type of phones. He said the commission was carrying out awareness campaigns to educate consumers on this so that they would be well guided in choosing the types of phones to use.
