NGX All-Share Index closes the year positive, up 45.90% y/y
On the final trading day of the year, the bulls maintained their grip over the market to close the week in the green. Consequently, the All-Share Index gained 0.36% to close at 74,773.77 points, an all-time high. The overall market was driven by gains in MTNN, ZENITHBANK, and GTCO outweighing losses in AIRTELAFRI, BUAFOODS, and DANGSUGAR as investors begin to take positions ahead of FY 2023 earning season. Having gained in two (2) out of three (3) trading sessions this week, the ASI closed 1.01% higher w/w, its tenth consecutive weekly gain. Over the year, some of the top performers include DANGSUGAR , UBA , BUAFOODS , ACCESSCORP and OANDO , while some of the laggards include NB , GUINNESS, and BUACEMENT. In summary, the NGX Exchange finished the year, up 45.90% y/y – the fourth consecutive annual gain, while the market capitalisation added ₦13.00trn y/y to close at ₦40.92trn.
NGX Sector Indices:Year to date, the performance of all sector indices under our coverage closed positive. NGX Oil and Gas was the best performer gaining 125.29%, followed by NGX Banking (+112.51%), NGX Consumer Goods (+93.14%), NGX Insurance (+79.37%), NGX Pension (+79.20%), NGX 30 (+50.74%), and NGX Industrial Goods (+12.84%). Analysis of today’s market activities showed trade turnover settled higher relative to the previous session, with the value of transactions up by 126.23%. A total of 368.63m shares valued at ₦12.82bn were exchanged in 6,732 deals. ZENITHBANK (+1.18%) led the volume chart with 28.88m units traded while GEREGU (+0.00%) led the value chart with deals worth ₦7.22bn.
Market breadth closed positive at a 3.07-to-1 ratio with advancing issues outnumbering the declining ones. TRANSCOHOT (+10.00%) topped forty-five (45) others on the leader’s table while SUNAASSUR (-5.17%) led fourteen (14) others on the laggard’s log.
