NGX All-Share Index, market capitalisation declined by 0.50%

The Nigerian equities market reversed into negative territory as the NGX All-Share Index (ASI) and market capitalisation declined by 0.50% to 245,418.37 points and N158.32trn, respectively.

Consequently, the market’s year-to-date return moderated to 57.71%, from 58.51% in the previous session.

The market’s decline was driven by losses in heavyweight stocks such as BUAFOODS (-10.00%), NESTLE (-10.00%), and UACN (-7.75%), which outweighed gains recorded in CADBURY (+10.00%), UNILEVER (+10.00%), and NASCON (+10.00%).

Trading activity was broadly positive, as total traded volume surged by 34.34% to 1.25bn units, while the value of transactions jumped 139.80% to N118.18bn. FIRSTHOLDCO (+4.76%) dominated market activity, leading both the volume and value charts with 736.04mn units traded, worth N80.81bn.

Market breadth remained positive at 1.64x, reflecting sustained buying interest, as advancers outpaced decliners. A total of 41 stocks gained, led by CADBURY (+10.00%), while 25 stocks declined, with BUAFOODS (-10.00%) emerging as the session’s worst performers.
