NGX All-Share Index off to a strong start, up 1.63%
In the first trading day of the year, the Nigerian equities opened on a bright note as the benchmark index gained 1.63% to close at 75,990.88 points. The positive performance was driven primarily by gains in telco heavy weight AIRTELAFRI (+5.99%), BUACEMENT (+5.15%), and ZENITHBANK (+0.91%). outweighing losses in GTCO (-0.99%), STANBIC (-8.11%), and INTBREW (-2.08%) As a result, year-to-date (YTD) return stood at 1.63% while market capitalisation gained ₦665.98bn to close at ₦41.58trn.
Analysis of today’s market activities showed trade turnover settled lower relative to the previous session, with the value of transactions down by 56.53%. A total of 515.81m shares valued at ₦5.57bn were exchanged in 9,370 deals. MBENEFIT (+0.00%) led the volume chart with 101.63m units traded while AIRTELAFRI (+5.99%) led the value chart with deals worth ₦741.78m.
Market breadth closed positive at a 2.82-to-1 ratio with advancing issues outnumbering the declining ones. DAARCOMM (+10.00%) topped forty-seven (47) others on the leader’s table while MECURE (-10.00%) led sixteen (16) others on the laggard’s log.
