NGX All-Share Index slips, down 0.06%
A negative trend dominated the NGX as sellers outnumbered buyers. The market dropped by 43.58 points to close at 67,335.3, indicating the pessimism of investors. The market capitalization fell by N24 billion to N36.85 trillion, while the year-to-date return rose to 31.38% from 16,172.82 points the previous day, ending at 16,084.24. Today, stocks at the Exchange pulled back slightly after yesterday’s rally, bringing the benchmark Index down by 6bps to close at 67,335.30 points.
Losses in NESTLE, ZENITHBANK and GTCO were the major drivers of the market’s negative performance outweighing gains in ACCESSCORP, WAPCO and UBA. Accordingly, the market is on track for a week of loss. Consequently, the year-to-date (YTD) return fell to 31.38%, with the market capitalisation falling by ₦25.05 billion to close at ₦36.85 trillion.
Analysis of today’s market activities showed trade turnover settled higher relative to the previous session, with the value of transactions up by 62.93%. A total of 788.54m shares valued at ₦14.17bn were exchanged in 8,810 deals. UBA (+8.25%) led the volume and value charts with 301.03m units traded in deals worth ₦4.89bn.
Market breadth closed positive at a 1.18-to-1 ratio with advancing issues outnumbering declining ones. LEARNAFRICA (+9.97%) led nineteen (19) others on the leader’s log while CUTIX (-5.56%) topped sixteen (16) others on the laggard’s table.
