NGX records marginal gains,  ASI up 1bp

Today, the local bourse gained marginally as buying interest in FBNH (+5.0%), ZENITH (+0.3%), and FIDELITY (+2.1%) pushed the benchmark index higher by 1bp to 49,445.31 points. Accordingly, YTD return improved to 15.8% (previously: 15.7%) while market capitalisation expanded ₦3.2bn to ₦26.7tn. In the same vein, activity level improved as volume and value traded rose 119.1% and 61.7% respectively to 147.6m units and ₦2.4bn.

Across sectors within our purview, performance was bearish as 4 indices lost, while 2 gained. The Oil & Gas and Consumer Goods indices fell 230bps and 5bps respectively, due to price decline in TOTAL (-10.0%), ARDORVA (-4.5%) and HONYFLOUR (-8.1%). Similarly, the AFR-ICT and Industrial Goods indices dipped 2bps and 1bp respectively following sell-offs in MTNN (-0.1%) and CUTIX (-7.0%). On the flip side, buy interest on FBNH (+5.0%), ZENITH (+0.3%), and LINKASSURE (+4.4%) drove the Banking and Insurance indices higher by 0.2% apiece.

Investor sentiment, as measured by market breadth, weakened to -0.04x (previously 0.00x) as 11 stocks gained, 14 lost while 72 closed flat. In tomorrow’s session, we expect profit-taking activities to weigh on market performance.
