Nigerian Stock market gains… ASI up 4bps
Price appreciation in NIGERIAN BREWERIES (+1.6%), WAPCO (+1.1%) and TRANSCORP (+10.0%) buoyed market performance as the All-Share index rose 4bps to close at 39,318.52 points. Consequently, YTD loss improved to -2.4% while market capitalisation increased by ₦9.6bn to ₦20.6tn. Trading activity was mixed as volume traded rose 14.9% to 329.7m units while value traded declined 32.3% to ₦2.1bn. The most traded stocks by volume were TRANSCORP (92.5m units), FBNH (23.9m units) and MANSARD (20.1m units) while GUARANTY (₦513.5m), ZENITH (₦315.4m) and FBNH (₦177.3m) led by value.
Across sectors under our coverage, performance was mixed as 3 indicators lost, 2 gained while the AFR-ICT index closed flat. The Insurance index led gainers, up 2.2% due to buying interest in AIICO (+1.6%) and LINKASSURE (+10.0%). Similarly, the Industrial Goods index rose 0.1% on the back of price appreciation in WAPCO (+1.1%). Conversely, the Oil & Gas index led the laggards with a 0.3% loss on the back of price declines in CONOIL (-9.3%) and OANDO (-1.4%). Also, the Banking and Consumer Goods indices lost 0.1% and 1bp respectively on the back of sell-offs in ZENITH (-0.5%), STERLNBA (-0.6%), DANGSUGA (-2.8%) and HONYFLOUR (-3.6%).
