NNPC gets new GMD
A new Group Managing Director has been appointed for the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation NNPC. He is Dr Maikanti Kacalla Baru. By this appointment the President Muhammadu Buhari approved the composition of a new Board for the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).
A statement issued by the president’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr Femi Adesina, said the approval was in line with the Section 1(2) of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Act of 1997, as amended. According to the statement, the Minister of State for Petroleum, Dr Emmanuel Ibe Kachikwu is the chairman of the new board while Dr Maikanti Kacalla Baru is the new Group Managing Director of the corporation.
Other members of the board are the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Finance and six other persons. The six persons, according to the statement include Mallam Abba Kyari, Dr Thomas M.A John, Dr Pius O. Akinyelure, Dr Tajuddeen Umar, Mallam Mohammed Lawal and Mallam Yusuf Lawal.
The statement quoted the President as urging the new board to ensure the successful delivery of the mandate of the NNPC. He also enjoined them to serve the nation “by upholding the public trust placed on them in managing this critical national asset’’.
