Senate Committee on environment invites Chevron, others over oil spill
The Senate Committee on Environment and Ecology has invited Chevron and other critical stakeholders for discussions to ensure the containmnent and clean-up of the oil spill in Koloma towns in Bayelsa state. This was contained in a statement signed by Mr Akintoba Fatigun, the Press Officer to Sen. Bukola Saraki, the Chairman of the Committee. In the statement, in Ilorin, the committee pledged to take the necessary steps to also remediate the impacted area.
It said that any losses and communities affected by the spill would be adequately compensated. “In fact, it has now emerged that the incident might have triggered a significant oil spill, which has already hit the shoreline as observed by surveillance, with consequential impact on the environment.
