UK raises living expenses requirement for students from Nigerian, Ghana, Kenya, nine others effective November 30

United Kingdom authorities have increased proof of fund for living expenses for students from Nigeria and other African countries.

Effective from November 30, students from Nigeria and other African countries planning to study in the UK will need to prove they can afford living in the country while studying.

The reviewed living expenses for African students was presented to Parliament on September 3 and updated on the UK Home Office website.
Under the new immigration rules, living expenses for Nigerians and other African students in London increased from £1,529 to £1,570 for each month of their course.

For African students living outside London, living expenses increased from £1,171 to £1,203.
For nine months, the maximum proof of fund requirement for Nigerians and other African countries rises to £14,130 for those in London and £10,827 for those living elsewhere.

While students from some countries are not affected by this rule, the reviewed living expenses largely affects students from across African countries, including  Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Egypt, Morocco, South Africa, Tanzania, Zambia, Zimbabwe and Cameroon.
