US, Nigeria trade volume rises to $1bn annually – Consul-Gen

The volume of bilateral trade between the United States and Nigeria has risen to $1 billion annually. Brandon Hudspeth, the new US Consul General in Lagos, said this at a reception held for him in Lagos.
He said the US was ready to further deepen its partnership with Nigeria in the areas of technology, trade, investment and creative economy.

The new U.S Consul-General said commercial partnership between the US and Nigeria were growing steadily as bilateral trade between the two countries was now about $15 billion annually.

He said Nigeria is particularly blessed with abundant resources which had enabled it to become a major source of commercial and cultural opportunities with global influence.

Hudspeth said the growing partnership between both countries had the potential to shape commercial, cultural, political and economic developments beyond Africa.

He said more than 100 U.S companies were operating in Lagos, an indication of US confidence in the Nigerian market. The new Consul-General to Lagos said the creative economy is another area which had bolstered the US interest in Nigeria.

He promised that his office would continue to support Nigerian artists, musicians and filmmakers by helping to connect their creativity with international audiences.
