Investors stake N4.87bn on 438.91m shares on NSE
The volume of shares transacted on the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) on Friday increased by 30.89 per cent as investors staked N4.87 billion on 438.907 million shares in 5,105 deals. This was in contrast to the 335.301 million shares worth N4.75 billion traded in 5,013 deals on Thursday. Despite the increase in the volume of shares, the All-Share Index, due to price losses, depreciated by 610.86 points to close at 38,767.29 as against the 39,378.15 recorded on Thursday.
Similarly, the market capitalisation, which opened at N12.622 trillion, declined by N195 billion or 1.54 per cent to close at N12.427 trillion. An analysis of the price movement chart indicated that Guinness recorded the highest loss to lead the price losers’ table by N10.58 to close at N201.42 per share. It is closely followed by Forte Oil which dropped N5 to close at N95, while Flour Mill lost N3.75 to close at N83.25 per share.
Similarly, Nigerian Breweries dropped by N3.50 to close at N142, while Presco dipped by N2.30 to close at N43.76 per share. On the other hand, TOTAL topped the gainers’ chart by N4.99 to close at N179.99 per share. ConOil grew by N1.70 to close at N51.70, while Vita Foam enhanced by 34k to close at N5 per share. Portpaint rose by 26k to close at N5.51, while Livestock share price increased by 19k to close at N4.09.
NAN reports that Access Bank emerged the investors’ delight as it traded 62.19 million shares valued at N475.67 million. It was followed by Eterna with 56.26 million shares worth N203.11 million, while Zenith Bank accounted for 44.53 million shares valued at N879.84 million.
