Work resumes after strike

Following the suspension of the nationwide strike by workers, normal activities have returned in many parts of Nigeria. In Bauchi, businessmen, bankers and petroleum products’ marketers carried out their jobs. Also in Ilorin, the people have resumed their businesses as government offices, banks filling stations opened for business. Because of increased tempo of activities, there was a build up traffic on the roads.
Some of the workers who spoke expressed satisfaction that work had resumed. Meanwhile, Gov. Abdulfatah Ahmed of Kwara commended the maturity and magnanimity of the Federal Government and labour for their efforts to restore order in the society.
Similarly, normal activities resumed in Ibadan Oyo state and Osogbo, Osun state and some workers said that they were delighted that labour and the government reached a compromise on the issue. Damola Aderibigbe, a civil servant, said he had not expected the strike to last as long as it did. “It is good for everyone that we have got to the end of this now as we can now focus on salvaging the losses incurred from the long strike. We would adjust our living standards to the new pump price of N97/litre of petrol. There is nothing to fear,’’ Aderibigbe said.
