Power generation to hit 10,000mw in 2014
The Managing Director of Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC), Mr James Olotu, has stated that with enough gas Nigeria’s power supply would hit 10,000 megawatts by 2014. Power supply is currently put at 4,300 megawatts. Olotu said this at a press conference in Abuja. He said “If we have adequate supply of gas, many of our power plants across the country will be operational because many of them have been completed.
“In transmission, we are slightly behind the schedule, however, at present, there is increase in power stability. But in distribution, we believe that we are right on track and have done a lot to bridge the gap in the country’s power supply,’’ he said. Olotu said that if all plants had enough gas, they could deliver 4,770 megawatts of electricity to the consumers by the end of 2013. He said that additional 3,420 megawatts would be injected to the national grid by NIPPs in December. According to him, the Federal Government has spent billions of dollars on NIPP projects.
