Stock market records mild loss… ASI down 2bps
Today, losses in GTCO (-1.1%), NB (-1.1%), and ZENITH (-0.4%) dragged the NGX-ASI down 2bps to 46,766.16 points. Accordingly, YTD return moderated to 9.48% (previously 9.51%) while market capitalisation fell ₦6.0bn to ₦25.2tn. Market activity improved as volume and value traded rose 1.6% and 3.9% respectively to 261.6m units and ₦2.4bn.
Across sectors, performance was positive as 3 indices gained, 1 lost while the Industrial Goods and AFR-ICT indices closed flat. The Insurance index led the gainers, up 0.5% due to buying interest in LINKASSURE (+8.5%) and MBENEFIT (+8.3%). Similarly, the Oil & Gas and Banking indices advanced 0.2% and 0.1% respectively, driven by price uptick in SEPLAT (+1.1%) and UBA (+1.9%). Conversely, the Consumer Goods index was the lone loser, down 0.2% on account of sell-offs in NB (-1.1%) and INTBREW (-1.0%). Investor sentiment, as measured by market breadth, was unchanged (-0.03x) from the prior session as 16 stocks advanced, 18 declined while 70 closed flat.
