DisCos metered 227,559 customers in 2 months— NERC  

The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has disclosed that electricity distribution companies (DisCos) deployed 227,559 meters in March and April.

The commission disclosed this, in its ‘metering status of distribution companies’ factsheet. According to the report, DisCos metered 111,654 additional customers in April, following 115,905 installations in March.
The NERC said Nigeria’s metering rate stood at 59.69 per cent by the end of April up from 56.54 percent in March.

As of April, the commission said the total number of metered customers across all DisCos reached 7.43 million out of 12.45 million active customers.

The agency said Eko DisCo recorded 88.78 percent, Ikeja DisCo 87.93 per cent, and Abuja Disco 80.08 per cent to lead the industry with the highest metering rates.

It will be recalled that  Joseph Tegbe, minister of power, had said that the metering gap is one of the major causes of the longstanding liquidity crisis in the country’s electricity sector.

Tegbe said inadequate metering has, for years, prevented the Nigerian electricity supply industry (NESI) from collecting accurate revenue, discouraging investments, and weakening service delivery across the value chain.
