Reps probes into issuance of licenses to private refineries.
The House of Representatives on Thursday directed its Committee on petroleum resources (downstream) to investigate the issuance of licenses to private refineries.The House also mandated the committee to scrutinise the delays in completion of construction works and commencement of refineries. The Committee is expected to report back within four weeks.
The directive followed a motion by Rep. Rose Oko (PDP – Cross / River) and 23 others, which was adopted by the House when put to vote by the Deputy Speaker, Emeka Ihedioha. Moving the motion,Okosaid the government in 2002 issued licenses to 18 private refineries, including Akwa Ibom refinery and petrochemicals. Others are Badagary petroleum refinery, clean water refinery, IIaje refinery and petrochemicals, Niger Delta Refinery and petrochemicals, NSP refinery and oil services, Ode Ade refinery and Orient petroleum resources, Others are Owena Oil and Gas, Rivgas petroleum and energy, Sapele petroleum, Southland Associates, South west refineries, and petrochemicals, Starex petroleum refinery, the Chasewood Consortium, Towel refinery, Total support refineries and Union Atlantic Petroleum.
