TCN declares force majeure on Oworonshoki, Lekki substations, blames flooding

The Transmission Company of Nigeria has declared force majeure on the Oworonshoki 132/33 kilovolt and Lekki 330/132 kV transmission substations. 

Force majeure refers to an extraordinary event completely beyond human control.

TCN’s spokesman, Ndidi Mbah, announced this in a statement on Wednesday. Ms Mbah said force majeure was declared due to flooding caused by continuous rainfall in Lagos.

The TCN public affairs general manager said the Lekki 132kV substation is still functional, adding that water is continuously being pumped out of the station.

According to her, the Oworonshoki substation is presently not in service, as water levels have affected two power transformers, TR1-60 MVA and TR3-30 MVA, which tripped on no load even after attempted restoration.

“Presently, all power protection and control cables of the two power transformers are submerged in water, and efforts to evacuate the water have proved ineffective as the rain continues to fall.

“Our engineers are working and doing everything possible to evacuate the flood to enable them to test the transformers for restoration.

“TCN regrets any inconvenience the incident might have caused the Eko Electricity Distribution Company’s customers taking supply from the substation,” she said. NAN
