60 booted over N100m fraud
The CBN has so far terminated the appointment of 60 of its staffers found to be highly involved in the N100 million foreign exchange last month.
According to source, 30 of the affected staffers were dismissed immediately the fraud was uncovered while the others were dismissed last week following the recommendations of the disciplinary committee set up to look into the matter.
The Committee, The Republic learnt had recommended that the matter be treated as internal and should not be taken outside the CBN. The committee The Republic further gathered recommended the summary dismissal of those found to be involved and those who were not implicated were asked to be cautioned and reinstated.
Financial sources further revealed that some of such staffers have been reinstated.
Sources told The Republic that there was a case of approval of medical bills for overseas treatment. The clerk who checked the application and approved it before passing it to the senior manager for endorsement was terminated while the senior manager who was suspended along the clerk was recalled and reinstated.
It was also gathered that some other staffers were neither dismissed nor recalled. The fate of such staffers still hang in the balance. Our source said that those in the dilemma are probably those who failed to appear before the disciplinary committee.
Some of the affected staffers on suspension complained that they never got letters requesting them to appear before the committee. In some of the cases, the letters got to those concerned a day or two later. And when they called later at CBN they were told to hold on that they would be contacted when needed.
