On Customer Service Week, Nigerian subscribers express rage, frustration amid MTN network outage
MTN data subscribers in Abuja, Oyo, Lagos, Rivers, and Delta have expressed rage over the network outage on Thursday during Customer Service Week.
Aggrieved subscribers vented their frustrations, while others lamented their losses caused by the network outage. @icekied said, “@MTNNG, what you guys did to me yesterday is unforgivable. You guys didn’t even give us any heads-up that there was going to be an issue with our internet service so that we could look for a temporary alternative; that was very bad of you guys.
“I use three different MTN SIMs, and all of them were useless yesterday until this morning. Honestly, you guys should be compensating us for the nonsense we had to go through yesterday. I hope you guys do better.”
However, MTN on Thursday acknowledged the network challenges, announcing that their “services may be temporarily unavailable as a result but assured that “our engineers are working to restore services as soon as possible”.
MTN’s network outage on Thursday coincided with the ongoing annual Customer Service Week, celebrated every first full week of October, with the 2026 edition running from the 5th to the 9th.
“@MTNNG became the weapon fashioned against my success yesterday! Poor broadband service was taken to a new low! If Nigeria were a country, you’d have paid compensation through your noses! We need to get Naija working, folks!” said another subscriber, @AjunamJohn, on Friday.

@36bgmillitary, on Thursday, said, “Dear @MTN180, due to your poor network service, I lost a job of 7 million Naira, because I literally subscribed nonstop to your network, which was the reason why I felt so disappointed when this happened, and I can never forget what this has done to me today. I don’t know if there’s a way I could reseal the deal I lost, but for those few minutes, I regret using MTN at that particular moment.”
@Vincentrate stated that MTN “can kill a living soul with their awful network @MTNNG”. The subscriber added, “The funniest part is that they won’t feel remorseful for their awful actions, and they lack empathy for us customers @MTNNG. They don’t know how to compensate their customers when their network glitches; this is so bad @MTNNG @NgComCommission.”
“This is getting completely out of hand, and MTN needs to be held accountable for the financial embarrassment and stress their network instability is causing everyday people,” @SHYLOCK142 stated on Thursday. “It is unacceptable that basic services like bank transfers are failing when customers are paying for reliable service.”
Meanwhile, MTN apologised on Friday for the poor service, saying the network issue has been resolved and services fully restored, but urged subscribers still experiencing network difficulties to restart their mobile devices.
Responding to a customer complaint on X, MTN commented, “We’re pleased to inform you that the issue has now been resolved and services have been fully restored. If you’re still experiencing any difficulty, kindly restart your device to refresh your network connection and reconnect to the service.”
