Artificial intelligence, (AI) is set to take root in Nigeria as the Federal Government and United Arab Emirates (UAE) partner to harness capabilities in the country. Artificial intelligence is a branch of computer science that deals with the simulation of intelligent behaviour in computers or computer-controlled robots to perform tasks commonly associated with intelligent beings.
Dr Ogbonnaya Onu, Minister of Science and Technology, while receiving the UAE Ambassador, Mr Obaid Mohamed on Monday in Abuja, said contributions from UAE would fast-track development of Artificial Intelligence. “The term is frequently applied to the project of developing systems with the ability to reason and discover meaning, among others. Contributions from UAE would help to fast-track development of Artificial Intelligence in Nigeria.’’

Onu said developing AI in the country would also enable Nigeria to take its rightful place in the comity of nation. For his part, Mohamed said UAE had been producing AI for quite some time and would be happy to collaborate with the Federal Government to develop the technology in Nigeria. He said that UAE would like to partner with the Federal Government on renewable energy to improve electricity supply in Nigeria.
