The week started off on a positive note, with the Nigerian Stock Exchange All-Share Index inching up by 13bps. Stocks in the banking sector remained attractive to investors as sentiments for most companies were skewed to the buy side. UBA recorded a 4.7 per cent mark-up, though profit taking during the session attempted to halt the current rally. Institutional purchases also firmed up the price of Fidelity Bank; it subsequently closed on full bid at maximum price, with the possibility of further gains. In the building materials sector, crossed deals at N108.50 trimmed off marginal points from Dangote Cement, with the price subsequently hovering around N109.00. On the flip side, others in the sector were on the upbeat. Available offers for both Ashaka Cement and CCNN were cleared during the session, with both closing with unfilled demand at top price and recording gains of 5.0 per cent apiece. Lafarge Wapco also inched up with a 2.9 per cent mark-up. In the food and beverages sector, a dearth of offers prevented current demand for Cadbury from translating to gains, however, market sentiment is likely to cause future appreciation in coming sessions. Flour Mills, Honeywell Flour and Dangote Sugar however all closed on the up-tick with gains of 5.0 per cent, 3.5 per cent and 1.4 per cent respectively.
